Our Farms & Gardens
Together with our programs for the kids and young adults we have multiple urban farms/gardens around Akron. These urban farms/gardens are cultivated and cared for by our immigrant community as a whole. We also use these plots of land for educational and event purposes. Learn more below.
The High Tunnel
In 2019 we completed our newest garden project, the High Tunnel. Located at our headquarters on Tallmadge Avenue this is a great addition to our program and allowed us to explore the cultivation of Saffron for the winter season. We look forward to using this space for our 2 main programs and to help feed our community for most of the year.
International Peace Garden
This garden is located on the corner of Columbia and Tallmadge Ave in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood. It represents native seed plants from three continents: Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The North High Garden
This garden is on the property of North High School in North Hill managed by the Shanti Community farm’s Yard Corps work crews. This garden is used by the Akron
Public Schools’ science and social studies departments for hands-on active educational activities for North High students.
We also raise chicks at North High School with the Early Learning Program.
