Who we are.

Shanti Community Farms is an educational urban farm project. We train and empower new Americans and other alternative workers to learn and earn by participating in the local food movement. In conjunction with a multitude of community partners, including Akron Public Schools with our youth programs, we manage urban farmland, provide outdoor work projects and other local food-related activities, and academic tutoring for youth. We strive to ensure that the “Old World” agricultural heritage engrained in many of our members is preserved, cultivated and passed along to the next generations.

3 Years of Growth

We started with ONE garden now we have 3!

Since our inception in 2017 we have taken many big steps forward. The video below shows our 1st three years and how we’ve grown… and we are just getting started.

Yard Corps (12-17)

We have a team of kids ready to tackle any yard care job.

We have a dedicated group of 12 – 17 year olds ready for your lawn care job! Supervised by our team leaders we have the skills and tools to tackle even the biggest tasks. Click below to find out more about our Yard Corps program, then give us a call to schedule your free estimate!

Farm to School (6-12)

Teaching the younger generation the importance of urban Farming

Farm-to-School is a summer camp for elementary-aged students. We focus on all things farm-to-table! This is a great way to get the younger generation of kids into farming and maybe encourage their green thumb! Click the button below to find out MORE! We even have a chick-raising program–Kuku for Kids–for pre-schoolers.

Please note: Due to Covid-19 we have temporarily paused our 6 – 12 year old programs. We hope to have them up and running again soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thoughts from the community.

“Shanti Farms is a unique program that fits perfectly with what Akron is all about. From the community programs to the festivals and events, there’s something for eveyone!”

– Sarah (Community Leader)

“Akron Public Schools is lucky to have a program that works so closely with some of our schools. These programs not only teach the importance of urban farming but also the importance of school and learning. They integrate all of their programs with some kinds of teaching or tutuoring. This really adds that extra special piece of this program.”

-Mark (Local School Faculty Member)

“Akron is the perfect place for Shanti Community Farms. There are many opportunities for urban farming around the Akron area and lots of kids who need a strong program like this one.”

– John (City Leader)
